EVAC Chair Training
Course delivery: Instructor led ​
Course duration: Approx 1 hour
Number of delegates: up to 7 per course
About this course: This practical course will teach staff to use evac chairs safely and confidently, ensuring everyone’s safe exit during emergencies.

- An introduction to the evacuation chair & it’s uses
- Limitations of use and safety considerations
- Fire action procedure overview
- The principles of horizontal phased evacuation
- Assembling the evacuation chair ready for use
- Practical use with the Evac Chair with our manikins
- Practical use with your evacuation chair
Fire Marshals and Wardens
Course delivery: eTraining
Course duration: 40 minutes
Number of delegates: 1+
About this course: This course is relevant for anyone who has taken on the duty of fire marshal or fire warden in your school. This course builds on the knowledge from the Handsam Fire Safety in Schools course, so if you haven’t already completed that course, you should do so first. All fire marshals should also receive a local orientation after completing this course.

- Fire risk assessments and how to incorporate fire safety measures
- Fire and the law
- A fire marshal or warden’s key responsibilities
- Fire ignition sources
- Firefighting equipment
- Raising the alarm
- Duties during an evacuation

- Ensuring the safety of vulnerable people
Fire Marshal Training
Course delivery: Instructor led ​
Course duration: 2 hours
Number of delegates: Up to 12
About this course: Handsam’s Fire Marshall training will ensure that your staff understand all the duties involved in Fire Marshalling, provoke discussion and understanding about key fire topics and leave your staff with a coherent plan for fire evacuation and the regular checks necessary to equipment and escape routes.
Key topics covered:
- Introduction to the duties of a Fire Marshal, fires in schools, the importance of good practice around fire, fire-fighting equipment and evacuations
- Evacuations , including planning, risk assessments and escape routes. (We will need to see your fire risk assessment or evacuation plan in advance please)
- Assembly points
- Calling the roll
- Managing students and staff with disabilities
- Reporting, monitoring and raising concerns

Fire Safety in Schools
Course delivery: eTraining
Course duration: 15 - 20 minutes
Number of delegates: 1+
About this course: This module is suitable for all staff who need to be aware of the precautions in place in any school in order to prevent and fight fires and to perform prompt and safe evacuations. If you need to induct fire marshals you will need to complete our Fire Marshals and Wardens eLearning followed by a local orientation of your site.
