
Safety Training for Caretakers / Site Operatives

This course is designed to help caretakers/site operatives understand their duties related safety and planned preventative maintenance as well as covering awareness of the risks that they may commonly face and how to manage and mitigate them.
Key topics covered:

- Taking responsibility for personal safety and being safety aware
- Hazard spotting and risk assessment
- What safety checks they should be carrying out, the frequency of these checks and how to record them (covering topics such as fire, legionella, asbestos, emergency lighting, lifts, electrical systems, extraction systems, ladders, gas equipment)
- What statutory planned preventative maintenance they should be ensuring is undertaken at their school and how to document the work
- How to vet and choose contractors and how to manage them when they come to the school to undertake work as well as what documentation they should be looking for. This will include a look at permit to work systems
- Manual handling (including practical activity)
- Working with ladders/at height (including practical activity)
- COSHH
- Asbestos
- Legionella
- Noise and Hand/Arm Vibration awareness
- Working with tools
- Lone Working and Security
- Dealing with Contractors
- Major machinery such as lifts, ventilation, air conditioning etc
- Recording safety checks and premises issues and resolutions etc on Handsam systems
